A BIT ABOUT CRADLE CAP:
Cradle Cap is a condition often found in young babies - yellowy, greasy scalp patches, like severe dry skin. It is harmless and does not cause distress or discomfort to the baby and is not contagious. The affected area may appear red and there will be scales and flakes on the scalp.
It usually begins in before a baby is 3 months and tends to last a few weeks or month and should clear up by the time they are 2. Occasionally it can last longer than this, though. Cases will vary from a few mild patches to large, thick flakes of scalp.
The baby can have some hair loss as the flakes fall off. Don't pick at the cradle cap in case of infection developing and spreading.
The condition can appear on other parts of the baby, such as the nappy area, nose, armpits or backs of knees. In these cases it is known as seborrhoeic eczema.
If Cradle Cap doesn't improve on treatment, plesae contact your Health Visitor or GP for advice.
