Mary was just 1.3kg when she was born.

Like many of the children at the Baby Home, Mary's mother has HIV and is unable to care for her. She arrived at the home on 11 October 07, after 5 weeks in intensive care as a newborn.

Sammy was born 7 weeks prematurely weighing just 1.63kg. He was abandoned and had malaria.

Now Sammy is best friends with Mathias (see below) and is a healthy, alert little boy. The staff hope that he will be adopted soon.

Dotto & her brother are at the orphanage, hopefully temporarily.

Dotto's mother suffers from epilepsy, which is seen as an evil curse in Tanzania, and she is trying to find a way of looking after her children as she is unable to work.

Matthias arrived at the orphanage at just one month old.

Sadly his mother died shortly after giving birth to him and his father is very poor. It is hoped that he can return to his village when he is about 2 years old.

Daniel was found on the streets of Mwanza.

No family have ever come for Daniel and it is hoped that he can be adopted. His confidence has grown since he arrived at the orphanage as a shy little boy.

UPDATE - after exactly one year at the orphanage, Daniel went home with a foster mother on 11 Dec 2007!

Mwita was left outside a hospital in Mwanza with his name on a piece of cardboard, tied with string around his neck.

No-one knows about Mwita's background - it is thought he is about 4 but he weighed the same as a 6 month old baby, and his body is covered in scars and burns. His progress has been long and slow, but amazing.
