1. What’s the difference between Moltex Öko and Bambo Nature nappies?
Moltex Öko nappies are made in Germany whilst Bambo Nature are made in Denmark. Both have excellent eco-credentials: they’re biodegradable and made from renewable and recycled materials. Plus, they’re free from brightening agents, perfumes, dyes, and lotions and are completely chlorine-free.
Size-wise, Moltex have five different sizes and feature stretchy, resealable fastening tabs, which seal nappies up and stop unwanted leaks. Bambo also have resealable tabs alongside stretchy waistbands and come in seven sizes, as well as Trainer Pants in two sizes.
Both brands are perfect for babies with skin conditions such as eczema. Remember, different babies suit different brands… we’ve even got a customer with twins – one in Moltex and one in Bambo! Order single samples or trial packs of Bambo and Moltex nappies to find your perfect fit.
2. Why aren’t Moltex beige anymore – are they bleached now?
Don’t worry: despite changing colour in 2008, Moltex Öko are still just as eco friendly and free from chlorine and brightening agents. Everyone prefers a white nappy to a brown one so, like Bambo Nature, Moltex now bleach their nappies using oxygen instead of chlorine.
3. Are the nappies completely biodegradable?
In the right conditions the nappies will break down as many parts of the nappy are made from biodegradable materials, although parts such as the resealable tabs still might not. If you would like information on composting nappies please look at Ecobaby’s website in Ireland.
4. What size nappy should I order?
Nappy size depends on the size of your baby. Check the table below to find the right size, or order a trial pack online or by giving us a call on 0845 226 2186 (Mon to Fri, 9-5).

5. How do I know when to go up a nappy size?
A leaking nappy or needing to stretch fastening tabs a long way are both signs that you’re in need of the next size up. It might be worth buying a bigger size just in case – after all, you’ll end up using them eventually! If your baby is between sizes, you might find that they’ll need a small size during the day and a larger one at night.
6. How many nappies will my baby get through in a day/week?
To start with you’ll need to change your baby roughly every 2-3 hours (that’s 10-12 times a day), but that should drop to about 6 times a day as they get older. They’re bound to get cranky and sore if you leave a soiled nappy on for too long, and make sure to let them be nappy-free for some times during the day.
7. What will I need for my new baby?
The amount of supplies you’ll get through depends on whether you’ve got a big bouncing baby or a tiny tot, and whether you’re using cotton wool or wet wipes. Take a look at our Newborn Essentials page for everything you might need before your little one arrives.
Here are some helpful tips for the basics:
Newborn/Mini size nappies – Before your new tot arrives, order a trial pack or buy a few different sizes to be on the safe side (they’ll always grow into them, anyway). 150 nappies usually last around 3-4 weeks.
Maternity Pads – Whether you’re planning to breastfeed or not, we’ve got you covered. There are two types of breast pads on offer – washable Imse Vimse or disposable Natracare, both of which are soft and free from unnecessary chemicals. Pads are a must if you’re breastfeeding, but if you’re not then try Tigex Breast shells which help to heal sore nipples. See our “For Mum” page.
Health Visitors recommend using cotton wool and warm water on a newborn baby for the first three months, and then move over to wipes afterwards.
Cotton Wool – Prepare to get through a lot of this! You’ll need masses of cotton wool in ball or pleat form for changing a breastfed baby’s nappy, which will be full of liquid yellow poo (lovely!) for the first few weeks. Bags of cotton wool should last you for around 2 days to start with. Luckily, multi-packs are available.
Wipes – These are a great substitute for warm water when you’re away from a tap. Try our Naturebotts biodegradable wipes, which are gentle and come in packs of 72 or 24, with money-saving multi-packs to keeps costs down.
Skin Care – If your baby’s got a lot of hair, use Earth Friendly Baby Chamomile Shampoo & Bodywash or Weleda Baby Shampoo & Bodywash which are both mild and gentle. Plenty of poo can cause sore bottoms, so it’s a good idea to use Calendula Cream and Red Clover Nappy Cream or Weleda Nappy Cream.
Nappysacks – You’ll fit around six MINI nappies into a nappysack, ready for the many times a day your baby needs changing. If you only want to use one sack per nappy, or need a sack on hand in event of emergency, buy money-saving multi-packs of four or ten rolls.
Baby Clothes – Our Green Baby basics are made from natural, organic materials and are all natural colours which make them ideal for both boys and girls. The wrap over vests are perfect for newborns (best buy 4 or 5 to be on the safe side), as are farm vests (packs of 5) which go over the head. Baby Sleep Gowns are popper-free, making midnight nappy changes a breeze, whilst hats, booties and scratch mittens are essential accessories for any newborn.
Blankets & Sheets – Prepare for your new arrival and get your hands on a receiving blanket, swaddling blankets and Moses basket or cot sheet before your due date.
Bath Products – Cuddledry towels are perfect for newborns. A sponge, a bath seat and a bath thermometer help to take the hassle out of bath times.
8. Have any of your products been tested on animals?
Absolutely not. We make sure that none of the products that we stock have been tested on animals.
9. Are all your skincare products vegetarian or vegan?
All of our skincare products are suitable for vegetarians but might not be suitable for vegans because of factors such as beeswax content. Give us a call on 0845 226 2186 if you have any concerns.
10. Are the skincare products you stock suitable for sensitive skin?
If you suffer from sensitive skin, conditions such as eczema or have any allergies it’s best to try a 24 hour patch test before using any of our skincare products. Apply a small amount to your skin and leave for 24 hours to check for any reaction.
11. When and why should I start using training pants?
Training Pants are useful when you want to teach your child to go to the potty on their own but need to avoid toilet-related accidents. Kids feel more grown up by pulling their nappy down by themselves whilst you get a break from changing nappies all day. Washable Trainer Pants are ideal for that last stage of potty training to prevent any small accidents, and Disposable Trainer Pants are useful for days out (such as trips to the swimming pool) where clean and dry places to change a nappy might be scarce. View Nappies & Changing.
12. I’d like to use washables but I don’t know what I need.
Try Flexitots Real Nappies, made by Totsbots, which we also stock. Available in two sizes, they use a waterproof wrap on the outside. It’s good idea to use paper liners in the nappies to help with the removal and disposal of poo. Opt for a multi-pack (15 nappies, 4 wraps and a roll of paper liners) if you’re thinking of using them a lot or a Day Pack (5 nappies, one wrap) if you’re not sure how often you’ll be using them – though do make sure to buy paper liners as well. Laundry mesh bags are useful to hold dirty nappies and to put them in the washing machine. Remember to wash your Flexitots at least 3 times before use to make them ultra-absorbent. Give us a call on 0845 226 2186 for more information. View Nappies & Changing.
13. I want to start potty training but I don’t know what to do or where to start.
Take a look at our Toddler Essentials page for some essential toilet training products, including potties, trainer toilet seats, step stools and washable or disposable training pants.
There’s tons of information available regarding potty training so do call us on 0845 226 2186, have a chat with your health visitor or take a look at this website, which is packed with advice.
14. Do the Babisil bottles really help with wind?
They certainly do! A contracting inner chamber means that air stays out of the bottle as the baby drinks, significantly reducing wind problems. Naturebott’s own Caitlin and Jess have tried and tested the bottles with their babies and noticed a big improvement. Jess’s baby used to bring up milk after feeding but hasn’t done since using a Babisil bottle, whilst Caitlin’s wee one settles much better after feeding. View Feeding page.
15. Is the Lansinoh manual breast pump easy to use?
The pump is wonderfully easy to get started with, and a breeze to look after. If you suffer from sore nipples then buying a pump before you have your baby is a good idea, as expressing will give your nipples a chance to heal. If you end up not using the pump then feel free to return it, as long as it’s in the original packaging and in a resalable condition. Ask Jess directly if you have any questions about the pump on 0845 226 2186.
16. Can you use the Babisil bottles with the Lansinoh pump?
Unfortunately the Babisil bottles don’t fit the Lansinoh breast pump. However, the pump does come with its own bottles (minus teats) and freezer-friendly milk storage bags.
